      Colorado Springs Airport is a three-level,  275,000 square-foot, 12 gate terminal facility that opened in 1994, and is six miles southeast of downtown Colorado Springs.

      The project features a 180-key select-service hotel, approximately 100,000 sf (9,290 sm) of office space above the hotel, and a parking garage for 216 cards. The building interacts with the existing and planning urban context by creating a new public space at the visual termination of Wewatta and 18th Streets.

      When CVS Pharmacy needed a discreet drainagesolution outside of their new building in Greenville, SC,they utilized ACO BrickSlot. This was a unique projectas it mixed concrete, bricks, and pavers.

    • Description

      In order to extend the accessible walkway through the heart of the UTC campus, form Heritage Plaza to Oak Street, through the area nicknamed 'Cardiac Hill', a series of sloped sidewalks and steps with handrails were required. A series of trench drain runs were required at the base of each run of steps to prevent heavy rains spilling across the sloped ramps. K200 provided increased hydraulic capacity with ADA compliant pedestrian friendly grate that was also architecturally pleasing, to ensure the projects aesthetic requirements were met. Several runs of K100 with matching wave grates were also used on the project.

    Light Rail Arizona

    Phoenix, AZ - June 2013

     

    • Description

      The construction of the Phoenix light rail called for a variety of surface drainage solutions in the city center. Although Arizona is a desert state, when it rains the rainfall can be quite intensive and the designers wanted to make sure all the light rail infrastructure within the Phoenix city center was always completely clear of surface water. The nature of pedestrians walking over the drainage required compliance with the ADA law, but there was considerable traffic of all sizes and weights being seen by the trench drain also. These two factors in conjunction with the substantial sizing required to drain the intensive summer storms meant the use of ACO Drain S300K drainage trenches that run through the city center, stand alone ACO Drain series 600 catch basins were used and in some areas ACO Drain K100 with type 478 ADA compliant grates were used perpendicular to the light rail tracks - these provided catchment drains if water ran along in the direction of the rails. This was an important feature in the areas around the station. ACO has become an acknowledged leader in providing drainage for light rail installations globally. ACO has provided specific drainage solutions in countries as diverse as Morocco, Australia, France, UK, USA and Germany.

    • Description

      This trench drain, which was installed at Sam’s Club in Richmond, VA, is just over 300 feet in length and surrounds the fueling area.

      For this project, the old and damaged Polydrain was removed and replaced with ACO PowerDrain S100K in 2 stages in order to allow the station to remain open.

    James City County Fire Station #4

    Williamsburg, VA - March 2015

     

    • Description

      James City County Fire Station #4 needed a heavy duty, sloped trench drain system that could withstand heavy firetruck traffic effectively in their fire station garage. To accomplish this, a Class E grate was used, which can withstand up to 135,000 lbs.

       

      The project consisted of 6 identical S100 runs at 32 feet each for a total of 192 feet.

       

      The Ductile Iron Slot Grate was painted gray to provide a more subtle appearance.

    Sean Collier Memorial - MIT

    Cambridge, MA - May 2015

     

    • Description

      This 190-ton sculpture made of 32 massive pieces of polished New Hampshire granite was created to honor Officer Sean Collier at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, MA.

       

      Officer Collier was the MIT Police officer that was killed in the line of duty the night the Tsarnaev brothers were fleeing after being identified as the Boston Marathon bombers in 2013. Formally dedicated April 29,2015, this is the only large format memorial for the events surrounding the bombing.

       

      The ACO Drain Brickslot installation came in two sections. The longest section is along the eastern boundary of the memorial running the length of approximately 33 meters. The second section is inside the memorial running between two of the large granite pieces that make up the memorial.

    • Description

      In 2013, Dover High School in Dover, Delaware was renovating their track complex. Due to the northeastern climate and freeze/thaw cycles, keeping standing water off the track surface was essential to maintaining the tracks functionality and safety of the athletes.

ACO Sport System 4000 was used with the ADA black plastic grate outside the track surface while ACO Sport System 3000 was used along the inside lane of the track. Running tracks are the most common use for the System 3000. The system is supplied in straight and radius channels with matching in-line catch basins to provide a continuous run around the entire running track. System 3000 is the most economic polymer concrete slot system available.

ACO Sport System 7300 was used to construct a jump pit in the infield. System 7300 is a complete set of parts that creates a full jump pit. It includes the TPE capped curbs, the sand traps and aluminum covers. There are three different sizes to comply with High School, College (NCAA) and International (IAAF) requirements.

    • Description

      Formula One has been the premier global motor racing championship since 1950. During that time many F1 races have been held in the USA, from a road circuit in upstate New York through a street circuit in Long Beach, California to a race around the car park of Caesars Palace Casino in Las Vegas.

       

      The last F1 race in the USA was held in 2007 at the Indianapolis Speedway in Indiana. In 2010 it was announced that a new circuit would be built in Austin, Texas and would be the home of US F1 races from 2012 to 2022.

       

      Purpose built circuits to host Formula One races have been designed by the German  architect Hermann Tilke for the last 15 years. Many of these new circuits include a lot of trench drainage, and the track in Austin would be no exception.

      ACO Drain PowerDrain in various widths was used in the pits for both drainage and temporary cabling and paddock drainage. The inaugral race was held November 18th, 2012 and all trench drains held up well to the intense forces inflicted by F1 race cars

    • Description

      Station 10 for Fairfax County Fire & Rescue and Baileys Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department uses four runs of K100 trench drain with heavy duty 435 slotted galvanized steel grates. The trench drain runs down the center of each individual fire engine bay and effectively collects and drains wash down, spills and ice & snow melt liquids. The position of the drain means only occasional vehicular traffic enabling a Load Class E instead of Load class F trench drain and more economical solution. ACO K100 has a galvanized steel wearing rail to protect the channel edge and gives a neat finish against the concrete floor slab.

    • Description

      The American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial in Washington, DC is the first memorial in the US to honor disabled veterans. The Memorial is framed along the northwest and southeast perimeters with walls of Bethal White Vermont granite with two hand chiseled inscriptions from George Washington and General Dwight D. Eisenhower that underpin the Memorials mission. Along the base of these two walls a run of trench drain was required to ensure pedestrian safety and to maintain the Memorials aesthetics. ACO KlassikDrain K100 was selected with stainless steel Type 447 grates. The grates complement the white granite, are rated to Load class C to withstand large volumes of pedestrians and are also ADA compliant.

    Sundance Square

    • Description

      Sundance Square has been a gathering place for downtown Fort Worth since 2013. It sums up Fort Worth: the history of the Wild West within a modern city. The architect wanted a 4” drain that would blend with the pavers and give it a rustic look for the entrances into the plaza.

       

      We recommended that instead of the normal black painted 478Q grate that we would order it without paint and get a rusted grate for the look wanted for the project. In other areas around the 216 jetted fountains and other fountains they wanted a system that would blend more with pavers selected and that could also be cleaned out easy if needed. The SS Brickslot was selected and installed for the project.

      The US Naval Academy was founded in 1945 and is the second oldest for the five US service academies. It is where officers for the US Navy and Marine Corps are trained.

      The ‘Smoke Court’ is an area used for daily formation. The area was being refurbished and a high capacity trench drain was required to address the frequent flooding that occurs during very high tides, as the area is at or near sea level.

      Parallel runs of ACO PowerDrain S300K with longitudinal, ADA compliant grates were used to provide the necessary hydraulics, eliminate the flooding and ensure the area was usable for daily formations. The ductile iron Load Class E, ADA compliant grates ensured the system would withstand frequent pedestrian traffic.

      The Pohanka Honda & Hyundai dealerships are located adjacent to each other with a shared access road between the service bays.

      During a recent remodel a new trench drain was added down the center of this access road. Due to the dynamic loading of vehicles driving down the length of the trench drain, a heavy duty trench drain was required.

      ACO PowerDrain S300K was selected to not only provide the required hydraulics and heavy duty Load Class F grates, but also due to the ‘antishunt’ lugs built into the grates and rails.     Light Rail Arizona

    • Description

      The construction of the Phoenix light rail called for a variety of surface drainage solutions in the city center. Although Arizona is a desert state, when it rains the rainfall can be quite intensive and the designers wanted to make sure all the light rail infrastructure within the Phoenix city center was always completely clear of surface water. The nature of pedestrians walking over the drainage required compliance with the ADA law, but there was considerable traffic of all sizes and weights being seen by the trench drain also. These two factors in conjunction with the substantial sizing required to drain the intensive summer storms meant the use of ACO Drain S300K drainage trenches that run through the city center, stand alone ACO Drain series 600 catch basins were used and in some areas ACO Drain K100 with type 478 ADA compliant grates were used perpendicular to the light rail tracks - these provided catchment drains if water ran along in the direction of the rails. This was an important feature in the areas around the station. ACO has become an acknowledged leader in providing drainage for light rail installations globally.       The New Riverfront improvements are designed to provide new public attractions, parkland and waterfront access, giving residents and visitors a reason to come and enjoy both banks of the Cumberland River. When complete, the project area will be ten times the size of the existing Riverfront Park.

      In order to extend the accessible walkway through the heart of the UTC campus, form Heritage Plaza to Oak Street, through the area nicknamed 'Cardiac Hill', a series of sloped sidewalks and steps with handrails were required.

      A series of trench drain runs were required at the base of each run of steps to prevent heavy rains spilling across the sloped ramps.       The Six Flags Amusement Parks are one of the leading American theme parks. Six Flags at Aurora near Cleveland includes the old Seaworld Marine Park.

       

      Constant improvements to the park have seen numerous uses of ACO Drain throughout pedestrian areas. One such use is the hardstand areas in front of the ‘Shark experience’ attraction.

       

      The drain is installed between brick pavers on one side and a cement concrete screed with gravel embedded on the other.

       

      The galvanized steel edge of the channel makes it ideal to butt the pavers against on one side, and the concrete slab with embedded gravel  is finished against the rail on the other.

      During heavy rain, the sloping parking lot - adjacent to the Silverstrand bike path -  would direct surface water to the bike path, where it would sit until it evaporated.

      Opened in August 2012, Smothers Park covers an area measuring fi ve acres along the Ohio River. The wide pedestrian Promenade, along the river, will eventually extend west to the new convention center. Along the Promenade are signature fountains featuring a ‘dancing water’ show every 15 minutes. These elevated fountains provide an excellent area for trench drains as they were kept out of the main pedestrian thoroughfare and could be incorporated into the design of the large paved area.       The memorial at George Rogers Clark National Historical Park is believed to be the site of Fort Sackville. In February, 1779, Lieutenant Colonel George Rogers Clark and his men captured Fort Sackville and British Lt. Governor Henry Hamilton, this victory over the British remains one of the great feats of the American Revolution. In late 2011, the grounds around the statue of Francis Vigo (the man who fi nanced Clark’s campaign) was refurbished with the addition of a trench drain to ensure the pedestrian walkways remained safe and dry during inclement weather.       Apart from being the capitol of Alabama, Montgomery is one of the most historical cities in the south - with a diverse impact on history from Jefferson Davies’s first pronouncements after the South’s ceding, to being regarded as a birthplace of the African - American civil rights movement. As part of the revitalization of the warehouse district in Coosa street additional drainage was required on the sidewalk.

      This Federal Building was built in 1963 and renamed in honor of Abraham Ribicoff in 1980.

      The Port of Pasco Airport is a medium size airport that needed a new apron and de-icing pad to handle the increasing flights scheduled. The new areas required a surface drainage system to prevent any ponding water and to collect deicer for recycling.

    UNC of Wilmington Chancellor's Walk

      Chancellor’s walk, at UNC’s main campus in Wilmington, is a highly trafficked pedestrian area. During the installation of new brick pavers an attractive drainage solution for the pedestrian area was required that would not take away from the beauty of the area, or from the brick pavers used in the installation. Additionally, a drainage solution needed to remove rain water quickly so the safety of the students and faculty would not be at risk.

      The Resort at Pelican Hill is a new luxurious resort built alongside two of the best golf courses on the coastline of Orange Country, CA.

      A $17 million upgrade to Gate/ Pier 38 at Vancouver International Airport makes life easier for regional commuters. As part of the upgrade a number of taxiway enhancements were completed to increase taxiway efficiency and enable larger aircraft to use the area.

      During the design phase the engineers contacted ACO for advice on the appropriate drainage solution.

      PowerDrain S300K was chosen for its high hydraulic capacity to cope with heavy downpours and snow melt. The gate area is at apron level and passengers walk out to the planes so keeping the area free of ponding was important.

    Oxnard, CA - 2008

    • Description

      Seabridge is a residential marina community offering a number of landscaped pathways and coastal walkways. In certain areas the  landscaping slopes dramatically towards the walkways. During and after periods of heavy rain the walkways would become flooded and run-off could drain into the coastal waters.

       

      To solve the problem, FlowDrain FG100 system was installed to capture water run off. The configuring drainage ensured the walkways remained usable and prevented debris washing into the coastal water.

      During the refurbishment of Beachwood Place Shopping Mall, NE Ohio, a surface drainage system was needed to prevent rain water run-off collecting around the entrance and outside eating area of a new restaurant.  The general contractor was concerned a point drain would not collect all water and ponding would occur. It was determined that a trench drain system would offer a better solution.

       

      The trench run had to fit with the slab pavers being used, and needed to follow a sweeping radius.       The apron around Hangers 1-5, where the private jets are housed, was experiencing flooding issue as the catch basins were not working effectively.

      During the redesign a cast-in-place system was specified, however due to installation advantages of a modular trench drain the specification was changed to S100K.

      PowerDrain S100K offered comparable hydraulics but is supplied as a one-piece unit with grates installed. This provided several time and cost savings during installation.

      S100K has been tested up to Load Class F so could deal with the wide variety of vehicles that would be using the road. Grates are locked into the channel at 8 points on every meter channel which reduces the risk of missing or loose grates.

    Lemon Avenue Streetscape

    Sarasota, FL - April 2006

    • Description

      The Lemon Avenue Streetscape project was part of a major Sarasota downtown park improvement. The area serves as the location for a weekly farmers market on Saturday when the street is closed to traffic. To ensure rainwater and any washdown does not flood the roadway, and create a driving hazard, a trench drain was required.

      Lexington County Public Works were faced with the problem of large volumes of water flowing down both Crestridge and Knotts Roads and into a busy street.

       

      In the case of Crestridge, the water came with enough volume and speed to cross the road and go into the private property across the street causing flooding.

    • Description

      When extending and refurbishing part of the ramp and taxiway a high capacity trench drain was needed to ensure this large hard paved area was kept free of ponding and that sheeting water did not flow onto the apron. These were a key requirement for safety reasons.

       

      ACO’s hydraulic design software confirmed that FlowDrain FG200, an 8” wide fiberglass trench would effectively drain the area.

       

      Heavy duty Load Class E ductile iron grate were used to withstand the loads imposed by planes and other vehicles.

      Pilkington Fire Protection Glass recently opened a new production facility in Toledo, Ohio where glass is continually cut. A drainage system was required to collect fine particles and waste water.

      When a courtyard area in Cross Keys was being renovated, a small perimeter trench drain was needed, but there were several site limitations. The most critical being depth, caused by the underground parking garage located beneath the courtyard area.

      Originally called the Detroit Superior Bridge (opened in 1917), the bridge was renamed Veterans Memorial Bridge on Veterans Day 1989.

       

      When refurbishing the 3,112 foot structure, a trench drain was needed to run the length of the bridge to remove rainfall. With the road and sidewalk at the same level, a single run of trench drain located away from vehicular traffic, could drain both areas.

       

      Due to depth restriction a shallow system was need. SlabDrain H100 was chosen as the overall depth is just 4.0” and Type 494 plastic ADA compliant grates were used for pedestrian safety and to maximize aesthetics.

      The system has custom side outlets that connect to the city’s storm water system.

    • Description

      During the revitalization of a retail area in Newport News a pull-in lane for pedestrian set-down was added.The pull-in lane needed a drain to prevent storm water run-off collecting at the curb-line. These puddles could splash pedestrians and pedestrian would have to step through, or over.

       

      A continuous trench drain was used to separate the road from the pull in - the road was graded towards the curbline and the pull-in was graded away from the curb, creating a low point where the trench drain would collect any run-off.

       

      FG200 was selected to provide the necessary hydraulic performance and ensure all storm water is quickly removed to prevent a skid hazard. ADA grates were used to ensure pedestrian safety at crossing points.

      A new outdoor shopping facility opened in Beachwood, OH. To keep the experience safe during the winter months, underground heating was installed on the walkways to melt away snow and ice. A discreet trench drain was needed to remove the water, and the product needed to work well with brick pavers. ACO’s new Brickslot was able to fulfill both requirements.

      The biggest problem facing the Bank

      of Montreal in downtown Calgary

      were sidewalks that sloped towards

      the building. The nearby catch

      basins were not catching nearly

      enough of the water and flooding in

      the entrance was a problem. ACO’s

      a barrier around the entrance to

      intercept water and prevent it from

      Rain water was causing a hazard for

      both pedestrians and motorists at

      Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls.

       

      Due to the steep incline, engineers

      were having difficulty finding a

      drainage system that could intercept

      the heavy rain fall. To solve the

      Rondeau Electric in Pembroke,

      Ontario needed a solution to their

      trench drainage problem. The

      existing grates were not strong

      enough to allow their tow-motor to

      drive over. In addition, the concrete

      around the existing trench drain was

      rapidly deteriorating.

       

      To solve both of these problems

      In designing two flight simulators in

      Calgary, Westjet was looking for a

      drainage product that would allow

      quick and easy surface drainage

      leaks or spills. Westjet engineers

      Approximately 30 meters of

      The steepness and camber of the road running through Santiago Canyon was found to produce water flow across the road in heavy rain.

       

      To solve the problem, Orange County decided to install trench drain down the middle of the road in the central median strip. ACO helped solve the problem in the most economical way  by using the very heavy duty S100K PowerDrain. ACO Design Services helped the Engineers by means of the ‘Hydro’ trench hydraulic program to optimize the trench configuration and ‘GIC’ grating intake program to ensure the grate chosen would intercept all the water in the heaviest rain. In certain areas due to the steepness or road camber, a double run of S100K was used to ensure absolutely no water ran from the downhill lane to the uphill lane. The double run was a more cost efficient method than using wider drains.

       

      1,722 feet of S100K was used with 5  off Type 900 catch basins custom fitted with 12” pipe  outlets.

      In the design of the new section of I15 the drainage of large flat sections of highway needed to be solved to prevent the build up of surface water which would be hazardous to drivers using the road.

      A solution that would eliminate all ponding was required, area drains alone could not be used due to the lack of natural ground slope and the cost of creating the necessary slopes for area drains to be effective.

      During the design of the new University of Colorado Hospital Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, the Flight for Life transport helicopters helipad was positioned across the street from the emergency department.

       

      To ensure the helipad remains free of standing water and snow melt a trench drain was required. A trench drain would not only effectively drain the area but allowed for simple two-way grades giving a flatter surface for the helicopter and wheeled stretchers.

      The Stone Arch Bridge was originally built in 1883 for the railroad. The bridge spans the Mississippi River at St. Anthony Falls in Minneapolis.

       

      Last used by the railroad in 1978 the bridge stood vacant for many years until it was re-opened as a pedestrian and cycle bridge as part of a local Heritage trail opening up the river front area.

       

      The Minnesota Department of Transportation undertook the bridge renovations which included a central run consisting of more than 2000 feet of FG200 trench drain system with bolted down gray iron grates.

    • Description

      Prior to the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics the airport was given a complete upgrade to cope with the additional traffic.

       

      Part of the upgrade included additional taxiway and apron facilities. The long straight runs were ideal for the 3,500 feet of FG200 fiberglass trench drain system fitted with heavy duty (DIN class E) locked, ductile iron slotted grates.

       

      The FG200’s excellent hydraulics provided the ideal drainage solution for the wide flat concrete areas, and the lightweight easy to handle 6 feet lengths enabled the contractor to install quickly and easily, thus saving money over alternative methods.       When Ohio State University decided to build new track and soccer complex it was named after OSU’s most notable athlete - Jesse Owens

      With a large area to drain Moody Nolan chose to use more than 500 linear feet of ACO’s FG200 fiberglass trench drain system fitted with Ductile Iron, ADA compliant grates. Each grate is locked to the steel trench bearing frame with 2 bolts per grate.

       

      A heavy duty grate was used on the trench drain to withstand the loads imposed by tractors and other heavy vehicles which occasionally access the field.

      In 1991 the United States Air Force moved most of the F-117 Stealth fighters to a new location at Hollomon Air Force Base in New Mexico. For security reasons the Stealth fighters needed to be kept inside hangars whenever possible. All maintenance and refueling, normally done outside, was to be done inside the hangar. This required 40 specially designed hangars to be built, each with a complete spill containment system around the aircraft in case of fueling and other spills - ACO Drain provided over 11,000 feet of modular, precast trench drainage for the project.

    • Description

      The construction of the Phoenix light rail called for a variety of surface drainage solutions in the city center. Although Arizona is a desert state, when it rains the rainfall can be quite intensive and the designers wanted to make sure all the light rail infrastructure within the Phoenix city center was always completely clear of surface water. The nature of pedestrians walking over the drainage required compliance with the ADA law, but there was considerable traffic of all sizes and weights being seen by the trench drain also. These two factors in conjunction with the substantial sizing required to drain the intensive summer storms meant the use of ACO Drain S300K drainage trenches that run through the city center, stand alone ACO Drain series 600 catch basins were used and in some areas ACO Drain K100 with type 478 ADA compliant grates were used perpendicular to the light rail tracks - these provided catchment drains if water ran along in the direction of the rails. This was an important feature in the areas around the station. ACO has become an acknowledged leader in providing drainage for light rail installations globally.       The engineers were designing improvements for the City of Banning Airport because water was flooding the hangars during heavy rainstorms, causing problems for pilots and staff. To resolve this issue, a trench drain system was needed.

    • Description

      Formula One has been the premier global motor racing championship since 1950. During that time many F1 races have been held in the USA, from a road circuit in upstate New York through a street circuit in Long Beach, California to a race around the car park of Caesars Palace Casino in Las Vegas.

       

      The last F1 race in the USA was held in 2007 at the Indianapolis Speedway in Indiana. In 2010 it was announced that a new circuit would be built in Austin, Texas and would be the home of US F1 races from 2012 to 2022.

       

      Purpose built circuits to host Formula One races have been designed by the German  architect Hermann Tilke for the last 15 years. Many of these new circuits include a lot of trench drainage, and the track in Austin would be no exception.

      The steepness and camber of the road running through Santiago Canyon was found to produce water flow across the road in heavy rain.

       

      To solve the problem, Orange County decided to install trench drain down the middle of the road in the central median strip. ACO helped solve the problem in the most economical way  by using the very heavy duty S100K PowerDrain. ACO Design Services helped the Engineers by means of the ‘Hydro’ trench hydraulic program to optimize the trench configuration and ‘GIC’ grating intake program to ensure the grate chosen would intercept all the water in the heaviest rain. In certain areas due to the steepness or road camber, a double run of S100K was used to ensure absolutely no water ran from the downhill lane to the uphill lane. The double run was a more cost efficient method than using wider drains.

       

      1,722 feet of S100K was used with 5  off Type 900 catch basins custom fitted with 12” pipe  outlets.

      Wineries are areas where spills and frequent wash down of the floors are common. However due to fruit acids and cleaning chemicals a corrosion resistant trench drain is usually required.

       

      When designing this new state-of-the-art 3,100 sq ft winery, the specifier incorporated a trench drain centrally located between the fermenting vats in the barrelling room.

      The Waterfront Park in Portland, OR is undergoing a regeneration process. Parts of the new pedestrian areas incorporate fountains directly in the paved surfaces to enhance the aesthetics of the area.       During the design phase of the project, the decision makers decided that a trench drain system was needed that could effectively and efficiently remove any water that came in contact with the pavement surfaces while being able to withstand the constant movement of  airplane traffic and other equipment used at the airport.

       

      ACO’s FlowDrain FG200 was chosen for this job because of its excellent hydraulics and ease of installation.

       

      Additionally, the ductile iron grates could withstand the heavy loads from the airplanes.

    Salt Lake City Airport

    Salt Lake City, UT - August 2002

    • Description

      Prior to the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics the airport was given a complete upgrade to cope with the additional traffic.

       

      Part of the upgrade included additional taxiway and apron facilities. The long straight runs were ideal for the 3,500 feet of FG200 fiberglass trench drain system fitted with heavy duty (DIN class E) locked, ductile iron slotted grates.

       

      The FG200’s excellent hydraulics provided the ideal drainage solution for the wide flat concrete areas, and the lightweight easy to handle 6 feet lengths enabled the contractor to install quickly and easily, thus saving money over alternative methods. The fiberglass channel gives excellent resistance to any de-icing salts used at the airport.

    • Description

      The Port of Pasco Airport is a medium size airport that needed a new apron and de-icing pad to handle the increasing flights scheduled. The new areas required a surface drainage system to prevent any ponding water and to collect deicer for recycling.

       

      ACO Drain FG200 was chosen for its excellent hydraulics making it ideal for the wide flat concrete areas.

       

      The fiberglass channel also offered excellent resistance to the de-icing chemicals used at the airport. The ductile iron grates can withstand the  loads and chemicals that may come in contact with the grates.

    McCarren Airport Baggage Area

    Las Vegas, NV - November 2006

    • Description

      McCarran Airport’s Southwest baggage area was experiencing flooding. FG200 was installed to drain water that was collecting in  the baggage area.

       

      The FG200 system gives a large trench hydraulic capacity allowing minimal outlets to be used to drain the area required.

      The system was fitted with slotted ductile iron grates. Each grate is locked to the steel trench bearing frame with 2 bolts per grate.

       

      A heavy duty grate was used on the trench drain to withstand the loads imposed by heavy vehicles which continually access the area.

    Seabridge

    Oxnard, CA - 2008

    • Description

      Seabridge is a residential marina community offering a number of landscaped pathways and coastal walkways. In certain areas the  landscaping slopes dramatically towards the walkways. During and after periods of heavy rain the walkways would become flooded and run-off could drain into the coastal waters.

       

      To solve the problem, FlowDrain FG100 system was installed to capture water run off. The configuring drainage ensured the walkways remained usable and prevented debris washing into the coastal water.

       

      Type 478 ADA compliant grates were specified to allow safe pedestrian access along side the waterway.

    Orange Country, CA - February 2009

     

    • Description

      The Resort at Pelican Hill is a new luxurious resort built alongside two of the best golf courses on the coastline of Orange Country, CA.

       

      Each suite offers an outdoor patio or balcony and a discreet trench drain was needed to remove surface water. Aesthetically, the product needed to work well with brick pavers. ACO Brickslot was able to fulfill both requirements.

      During the expansion and remodel of the Peppermill Hotel & Casino in Reno, NV the pool & garden entertainment deck were refurbished. As part of the remodel a trench drainage system was added to avoid any slip hazards caused by rainwater, over spray from the pools water feature and splashing from the pool.

       

      The drainage system also needed to complement the aesthetics of this high profile area.

      When the design plans for the shopping mall was changed from an indoor to an outdoor venue a surface drainage system was needed around the walkways and fountain areas to drain rainfall.

       

      A trench system was the best solution as the pavers would be easier to install with simple 2-way slopes rather than 4-way falls required for area drains. Brickslot was specified as it provides discreet drainage.

    Auburn, WA - August 2010

     

    • Description

      The historic downtown area of Auburn, Washington is going through a revitalization process to bring more life into the area. One of the areas is building a three-story office and medical complex with an inviting entrance and lots of brick pavers.

       

      Because of the brick pavers, the contractor needed to find a trench drain system that would be discreet and not take away from the aesthetics of the area.

       

      ACO’s Brickslot with K100S channel was chosen for the job because it is a discreet drainage solution for use with brick or stone pavers. The trench drain was run in a segmented curve. The ADA compliant 7/16” slot blends in with the paving joints giving an aesthetic solution.

    Sundance Square

    Fort Worth, TX- July 2014

     

    • Description

      Sundance Square has been a gathering place for downtown Fort Worth since 2013. It sums up Fort Worth: the history of the Wild West within a modern city. The architect wanted a 4” drain that would blend with the pavers and give it a rustic look for the entrances into the plaza.

       

      We recommended that instead of the normal black painted 478Q grate that we would order it without paint and get a rusted grate for the look wanted for the project. In other areas around the 216 jetted fountains and other fountains they wanted a system that would blend more with pavers selected and that could also be cleaned out easy if needed. The SS Brickslot was selected and installed for the project.

    City of Seattle Joint Fire Fighting Training Center

    • Description

      The City of Seattle’s training center for fire and ambulance services needed a heavy duty drainage system for their new facility.

      The trench drain had to drain the water from the high pressure fires hoses used to extinguish training fires. Additionally, the grates needed to withstand the loads of fire truck and ambulance traffic.

    Holloman Air Force Base

    Otero County, New Mexico - August 2002

    • Description

      In 1991 the United States Air Force moved most of the F-117 Stealth fighters to a new location at Hollomon Air Force Base in New Mexico. For security reasons the Stealth fighters needed to be kept inside hangars whenever possible. All maintenance and refueling, normally done outside, was to be done inside the hangar. This required 40 specially designed hangars to be built, each with a complete spill containment system around the aircraft in case of fueling and other spills - ACO Drain provided over 11,000 feet of modular, precast trench drainage for the project.
